Overview:

The project “Protection and Life Saving Assistance to refugees and asylum seekers in Libya”, funded by UNHCR, intends to promote a favorable protection environment for refugees and asylum seekers and irregular migrants in Western Libya through protection monitoring, provision of psychosocial assistance, cash support and case management.

Under the supervision of the MHPSS Technical Officer  and with technical support from the MHPSS Specialist, the PSS officer will oversee providing group Psychosocial Support (PSS) to refugees, migrants asylum seekers in need of PSS services, with the aim to strengthen their positive coping mechanism and their resilience process. The PSS Officer will also support the Protection teams in the assessment and support of individuals in need of more specialized services.

Reporting Line: PSS Officer will report to MHPSS TO and will work in close collaboration with supervisors, psychologists, case workers and Protection Monitoring team, PM and CDC Field Coordinator.

General Tasks:

• Provide Resilience-Focused and structured group PSS sessions to refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in psychological distress at CDC, alternative locations and remotely, based on the agreement with the MHPSS Specialist and GBV Supervisor.
• Provide resilience-oriented individual PSS sessions for those with minor mental health needs and/or providing proactive PSS support for those going through challenging situations without more complex mental health needs.
• Provide technical support and guidance to CDC caseworkers in dealing with cases of general protection and GBV survivors and supporting when needed children under the CP case management, PSNs, and persons under general protection based on their needs.
• Support the Protection Monitoring Team in assessing mental health status and support needs.
• Organize PFA training for and conduct regular support to protection field staff on MHPSS, including provision of PFA.
• Support CBP Team in designing and providing PFA training for Community Mobilizers and Caregivers.
• Participate in PSS supervision meetings with MHPSS Specialist, other units’ supervisors and caseworkers when requested.
• Closely cooperate with CESVI staff in the CDC and alternative locations to ensure proper coordination, including internal referral and follow up of cases.
• Fulfil another additional task requested by the MHPSS Specialist, Supervisors and Technical Unit.
• Responsible for updating MHPSS service maps and referral pathways information.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, or related field.
• At least 3 years of experience working in social services, GBV or Protection.
• Experience with NGOs and INGOs is an advantage.

• Knowledge of international MHPSS approaches, and tool development.
• Ability to convey technical information clearly, strong written and oral skills.
• Excellent knowledge of English and Arabic.
• Excellent organizational skills.

• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently.
• Excellent self-motivation skills.
• Ability to travel and provide mobile support.
• Strong facilitation and capacity-building skills.
• Knowledge of Child Protection Principles and Trauma-informed Care.
• Experience training on Psychological First Aid (PFA).
