PROTECTION OFFICER
Fixed Term contract (3 months renewable, starting December 2022) in Zuwara
MAIN PURPOSE
The Protection Officer works under the supervision of the Protection Activity Manager. The Protection Officer is responsible for the provision of protection-related assistance and support to persons in need including Libyans and non-Libyans in the context of MSF activities. These include protection activities in urban areas, detention centers, OPD consultations and/or disembarkation, or in the context of referrals to health facilities.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Identify and assess requests for assistance of vulnerable individuals and groups, as well as asylum-seekers in need of registration with UNHCR, and ensure appropriate protection responses, including the provision of protection counselling, referrals, case management services, shelter/housing, food security and appropriate follow-up.
- Monitor and report on protection issues and trends identified in the
- Work closely with interdisciplinary team (Medical, Mental Health, Advocacy) to ensure referrals and follow-up are effective and that protection needs of MSF patients are holistically
- Identify protection needs and vulnerabilities through individual protection
- Respond to the beneficiary’s protection needs, according to the scope of the project, through protection counselling (country information, asylum system, access to available solutions) and referrals to other protection actors, in order to actively contribute to the improvement of their quality of
- Follow-up with beneficiaries to ensure that services are provided (visits, phone calls)
- Undertake comprehensive case management, maintaining updated electronic database records for each identified case, keeping notes of all casework activities, providing draft reports as Keep records, statistics, and files updated
- Monitor and regularly update information on new arrivals, facility conditions, presence of other NGOs, in order to guarantee coordination of services
- Participate in the creation of any material needed for the activities of the protection team
- Participate in weekly meetings with the Protection team and the Protection manager

REQUIREMENTS
Education |
A Bachelor’s degree in law, political sciences or social work is preferred, a Masters’ degrees or equivalent experience in a related field are also accepted |
Experience |
At least two years of experience working in a mixed migration context, with MSF or other NGOs |
Languages | Fluent in both oral and written English and Arabic. Fluency in French is an asset. |
Competencies |
Ability to work under stress and to maintain calm under challenging circumstances Conscientious and meticulous record-keeping and report writing
A positive attitude and sensitive manner when dealing with beneficiaries, including a range of interviewing skills for dealing with challenging scenarios. |
