Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify the psychosocial, socio-economic and administrative needs for patients
- Actively promote the availability of counselling services and carry out, individual or in group counseling, basic psycho educational sessions, to patients, their families (when needed), in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties within the project scope.
- Refer patients to other specialists or other institutions for further assistance, when necessary in order to propose the best support available.
- Participate in the creation of any material needed for counseling activities and look after it,
- Keep files and statistics of daily activities and participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss special cases with other counselors, preserving confidentiality
- Inform line manager of any problem of any kind arising during the day-to-day activities.
- Take active part in trainings, supervisions/intervisions and support the activities manager when necessary in doing sensitization for MSF staff or external partners about mental health /psychosocial issues.
- Discuss difficulties and problems in counseling with supervisor.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- To provide mental health support to all MSF beneficiaries in all locations based on the projects needs, in but not only, detention centers, PHCs, Community mobile clinics, private hospitals and MoH facilities (TB programme) …
- To conduct different kind of MH activities such as psychoeducation sessions, discussion sessions, listening space, parenting guidance and psychological first aid sessions.
- To conduct individual counseling sessions, including first assessment, based on individual needs of beneficiaries according to MSF protocol and framework implemented in the detention centers only for mild to moderate cases.
- To discuss critical cases (risk of suicide or self-harm) with line manager/ focal point and to refer them to psychiatric care according to the operative standard procedures.
- To work in collaboration with the Humanitarian Affairs (HA) department by referring individual cases in need of protection and offering support to patients referred by HA.
- To ensure a proper data collection of MH activities by keeping DHIS forms (hard copies and electronic registers) up to date.
- To attend the regular individual clinical supervision, case clinical group discussions and general staff meetings.
- To commit to work ethics, to respect of patients and colleagues, and to adhere to the project framework.
- To respect the MSF code of conduct, the consoler code of conduct and to ensure patient confidentiality.

Job Requirements
Education | Counseling, social work, psychology or other similar degree/diploma. |
Experience | 1 year experience essential. Experience with NGO desirable. |
Languages | Arabic is essential. English and other African languages are desirable |
