4 Drivers

The position will be based in the Tripoli Sub Delegation

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Transports:

  • Drives different types of ICRC light vehicles and transports people and/or materials as per instructions, including for the weekends and evening duties as instructed.
  • Loads and unloads vehicles as necessary and ensures that the goods are loaded safely. Properly delivers cargo as requested and obtains transport documents for all cargo transported.
  • Ensures that passengers and cargo on board have all the necessary authorizations and documents available.
  • Controls attributed vehicle and avoid misuse.

Security / Safety:

  • Follows all internal ICRC and legal security and safety rules and regulations.
  • Establishes and communicates through telephone or VHF/HF Radio systems (if available) as and when required.
  • Is sensitive to security and road safety situations and reports any danger or incident to the Team Leader during field trips, and to his supervisor back at the delegation.
  • Respects the local traffic law and represents the institution in a proper manner.
  • Avoids driving on hazardous roads or tracks.
  • Informs the Logistician and receptionist about the time of departure and return to the base.
  • Makes sure that the vehicle is parked in the safe area all the time.
  • Uses the security belt and asks passengers to use it.
  • Drives only ICRC goods and personnel in ICRC vehicles unless instructed differently by superior.
  • Fills Waiver of responsibility when transporting non-ICRC passengers.
  • Fills in relevant field trips and other forms.
  • Avoids using mobile phones while driving and respects radio communication procedures.

Vehicle checking and maintenance:

  • Checks the mechanical condition of the vehicle before the trip and at the beginning of all working days: fluid levels, wheels, tires, lights, inspect for eventual leaking of fuel and oil, checks body condition.
  • Carries out the daily vehicle condition, checks, and inventory of equipment and accessories of the assigned vehicle as per instructions.
  • Maintains the vehicle equipment and reports immediately any need for replacement.
  • Ensures permanent cleanliness of vehicle.
  • Checks on a daily basis the general working and body conditions of the vehicle and its accessories.
  • Carries out daily maintenance and minor repairs as and when required.
  • Maintains and carries out basic service of the vehicle during Field trips.
  • Performs field trip checks and ensures timely preparation of vehicle as per standards.

Reporting:

  • Reports technical car defects and missing equipment immediately to the Logistician.
  • Maintains the logbook or electronic logbook of the vehicles.
  • Pays specific attention and assures refueling and recording in the logbook
  • Reports changes in security or road safety situation immediately to his superior.
  • Reports any incident / accident immediately and ensures the timely establishment and submission of the relevant report.

Environmental friendly driving:

  • Drives in such a way that the fuel consumption is minimized (select proper gear etc.)
  • Checks vehicle condition (ensures clean Air & Fuel-filter etc.) to minimize pollution.
  • Ensures refueling of vehicle without spilling fuel or oil on the ground.

General Duties and Code of Conduct:

  • Is aware of the delegation’s objectives and activities.
  • Handles general and individual information accurately and with confidentiality.
  • Understands the three components of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement.
  • Applies the security rules at all times.
  • Respects and observes the staff regulations of the ICRC in Libya.
  • May be requested to perform duties and tasks not covered in this job description as well as to provide support to other departments when necessary.

 

Required background, skills, and experience:

  • Primary school level.
  • 2-4 years of working experience in driving light vehicles.
  • Basic knowledge of written and spoken Arabic and English.
  • Very good communication skills.
  • Driving license for at least 5 years without suspension.
  • Basic mechanical skills.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Capacity to apply ICRC rules and procedures.
  • Service-oriented and flexible.
  • Interest in humanitarian activities (especially ICRC’s).
