Duty station: ( Tripoli).
Type of Contract: Full time.
Reporting to:
– Activity Coordinator (centre manager) functional for all tasks
– Education Officer technically for education tasks
General context of the project
INTERSOS is an Italian humanitarian organization that aims to provide immediate response, protection and durable solutions to populations affected by humanitarian crises, assisting the most vulnerable groups.
In Libya INTERSOS is active since 2018, operating in 3 bases, across West, East and South. INTERSOS in Libya aims to alleviate suffering of the most vulnerable population groups in Libya, in particular with a focus on access to essential services and strengthen capacity of local authorities, local organizations and communities to prevent and mitigate the effects of the protracted crisis in Libya, developing a protection conducive environment and enhancing community resilience, with programs focused on Education, Protection, Health, WASH/public works and Livelihoods/Food Security.
Purpose /Objectives:
- With the support of the Education Officer and Teacher Team Leader, the teacher will be responsible to
provide NFE classes, both remedial and catch-up, to children and youth in one or more subjects among Mathematics, Arabic or Computer and depending the area of expertise and previous experience.
Responsibilities/duties:
Planning and implementing age-appropriate activities: design and deliver activities and lessons
that stimulate children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. - This includes planning a creative play, educational games, art projects, and other participatory activities.
- Teaching groups of children using a child-centered approach, as per the assigned classes in the
selected location and its surroundings and at the times designated. This includes key learning
subjects: Arabic language, English language, and mathematics. - Creating a safe and inclusive learning environment: ensure the classroom is a safe, supportive,
and inclusive space where children can explore, learn, and interact with their peers. - Establish routines, manage behavior, and promote positive social interactions among children.
Individualized instruction and assessment: assess each child’s developmental progress and tailor instruction to meet their individual needs. Observe and document children’s learning and
behavior, providing feedback to parents and caregivers. Collaborate with other staff, such as
social workers ICM and Case managers supervisors to support children with learning difficulties
or special needs. - Parent and community involvement: promote strong partnerships with parents and caregivers by maintaining open communication, and sharing regular updates on children’s progress. Engage with the wider community, collaborate with local organizations, or participate in community events related to early childhood education.
- Continuous professional development. Attend training sessions and apply new knowledge and
skills in their teaching practice. - Develop education programs and activities plans, as well as lesson plans that are engaging and
enjoyable for learners, focusing on group work and inclusive education. - Attending and participating in weekly coordination meetings, teachers’ meetings, and curricular
meetings as required. - Assisting in the development of the curriculum supporting materials, as well as contributing in the selection of teaching and learning materials, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Teacher Team Leader include, but not limited to, design and implement activities inside and outside the school and Baity Center, as well as supplementary/non-classroom activities. - Collect attendance sheets, enter data and provide reports on a weekly basis.
- Identify and refer children with special needs to the protection team and to the MEAL team
Assess and analyze students’ achievements to improve teaching and learning methods. - Modify instructional practices and methods when necessary to promote student progress.
Perform any other task required by the supervisor. - Moreover:
- Clear & timely communication to line management
- Fully abide by internal rules and guidelines and respect Charter of Values and Code of Ethics.
- Always ensure confidentiality and conduct all activities respectfully and sensitively toward beneficiaries.
Qualification/level requirements:
Minimum requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in English language, Arabic language, mathematics, or computer science.
At least 2 years’ work experience as a teacher teaching English language, Arabic language, or
mathematics.
The following knowledge and skills are required of a teacher in his/her assigned area:
successfully manage time, communications, and record keeping procedures that will
support and enhance student learning.
Inclusive education and individualization of instruction: The teacher is responsive to the
needs and experiences children bring to the classroom, including those based on culture,
community, ethnicity, economics, linguistics, and innate learning abilities.
Technology: Knowledgeable about using technology to support instruction and enhance
student learning.
Minimum requirements:
- Native Arabic.
- Strong team spirit, comfortable in a multicultural environment.
- Excellent analytical skills, observation and analysis capacity.
- Attention to detail and structured way of approaching tasks.
- Able to ensure quick quality delivery in a stressful environment.
- Ability to adhere to deadlines and respect line management.
- Very strong interpersonal skills: strong communication and diplomatic skills.
- Practical and problem-solver.
- Ability to deal with heavy work pressure.
