NGO PRESENTATION:
HI is currently implementing several programms in Tripoli, Misrata and Benghazi, supporting vulnerable persons and their families such as people with disabilities (including people living with mental health problems), people with chronic diseases, older persons, displaced and returnees’ persons and families, migrants and refugees. Activities include provision of comprehensive rehabilitation services including physical therapy and psychosocial support, provision of assistive & mobility devices as per needed; capacity building, technical support and donations of assistive devices and/or materials and equipment to health partners; training on inclusion principles to other humanitarian actors and health workers;
Since early 2019 HI is implementing a three-year project entitled ‘Action for Mental Health Assistance in Libya’ (AMAL) as part of wider initiatives to improve the access and quality of health care services in Libya. Implemented in partnership with the Libyan Ministry of Health and a Tunisian NGO, the overall objective of the project is to allow the most vulnerable people in Libya from host communities, those internally displaced and returnees and migrants, suffering from mental health disorders/psychosocial disabilities to regain or to preserve good mental health by accessing quality interventions at community level, primary health care level, and secondary and tertiary level.
In June 2020 HI also started a one year project entitled ‘Strong And Loving Active Minds’ (SALAM) to enhance the development of a culture of peace, cooperation and responsibility – with a focus on youth (male and female) – through improved provision of MHPSS services at community level. This project will strongly rely on Libyan Civil Society Organizations.
HI is also involved in Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) activities. As a response to increased ERW related accidents, HI is also currently resuming its Risk Education activities in greater Tripoli since November 2020.
The employee will be mandated for the following mission:
GLOBAL OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION:
Under the responsibility of the Project Officer, the Psychosocial Support Trainer (PSS Trainer) will ensure the quality of PSS service delivered by Handicap International to its partners’ to vulnerable population.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS DESCRIPTION
Preparation for trainings
- Participate in making assessments of emergency team members, health care providers and /or specialized psychosocial staff.
- With the MHPSS Technical Specialist and Supervisor support, identifying training needs for the emergency team members, health care providers and /or specialized psychosocial staff.
- With MHPSS Technical Specialist and Supervisor support to develop a training plan schedule in line with HI standards.
- Work with MHPSS Technical Specialist and Supervisor and Rehabilitation technical team to develop a comprehensive training package: including guidelines resources, preparation of materials, case studies, and presentations for the training. The training package will be on: (1) Psychological First Aid (adults/children), basic helping skills for patients with functional limitations, and on stress management; (2) low intensity psychosocial intervention; grief, loss and denial; and psychosocial impact of functional limitations.
Training and Capacity Building
- Support the PO in ensuring effective logistic of training sessions and other activities
- Provide qualitative training, in line with HI standards, on your field expertise to improve psychosocial services and promote its importance; to identified emergency team members, health care providers and /or specialized psychosocial staff according to training plan, with the support of MHPSS Supervisor.
- Provide on the job coaching to identified specialized psychosocial staff on low intensity psychosocial intervention skills (including working in pair with the specialized psychosocial staff as part of their on the job training).
- Provide support to the rehabilitation department to improve its development and the promotion of importance of psychosocial care, in collaboration with PO and MHPSS Supervisor.
Training for trainers (ToT)
- With MHPSS Technical Specialist and Supervisor support to develop a ToT plan schedule in line with HI standards.
- Support the preparation of the ToT package for the specialized psychosocial staff.
- Provide qualitative ToT, in line with HI standards; to specialized psychosocial staff according to training plan, with the support of MHPSS Supervisor.
- Provide on the job coaching to identified specialized psychosocial staff on the skills developed during the ToT.
Monitoring and Reporting
- Conduct regular monitoring assessing the quality of the care provided by the trained emergency team members, health care providers and /or psychosocial staff.
- Report after each trainings (attendance sheet, pre-post-test etc.)
- Report any technical issues faced to PM and MHPSS Supervisor along with suggestions for improvements
- Provide relevant feedback and analysis on the impact of the trainings.
- Contribute to the analysis of the data extracted from project monitoring tools, in close collaboration with the project officer and project manager.
- Submit data required for reports, monthly reports and updates as required.
Coordination and Communication
· Strong link with the MHPSS Supervisor and technical coordination is maintained with regular communication
· As you are an HI representative in the facility, ensure appropriate and effective communication and collaboration with other staff in service.
· As requested by PM, provide direct PSS to persons with need on the site of intervention, with supervision from MHPSS Supervisor.
Note that this job description must remain flexible, to respond to additional tasks or changes as identified by the line manager.
REQUIRED PROFILE
Education
- Master in Psychology
Experience
- At least 5 years of experience in clinical psychology.
- Experience as a trainer of adults in field of expertise
- Experience in supervision and/or development of IEC material desirable
- Experience in delivering ToT.

- English and Arabic mandatory (oral and written)
- Basic computer skills demonstrated experience in utilization of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel and PowerPoint in particular.
