Position title: Pharmacist

Location: Benghazi

Position Reports to: Medical Doctor

Job Summary:

The pharmacist will have primary responsibility of dispensing of medications to mobile medical units with appropriate information on how to use them after prescription from the IMC medical doctor and maintaining records of medications provided to MMUs, and pharmaceutical stocks in the MMUS suppling pharmacy and in the community development center.

Main Tasks

  • Provide pharmacy services in accordance with licensing regulations: provide independent patient counseling relating to

Pharmaceuticals.

  • Update Pharmaceutical Information Management System (PIMS) in a timely manner.
  • Stocks finished goods details, hardware, and steel in assigned locations while adjusting locations as needed.
  • Verifies accuracy of counts, paperwork and labels
  • Completes daily cycle counts.
  • Assists in loading and unloading trucks when needed.
  • Keeps warehouse neat, orderly, and organized.
  • Active daily and weekly reporting of stock balance.
  • Signing reception notes and waybill after physical counting of any medications received in the warehouse.
  • Apply standard practices and techniques in appropriate situations, correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results and follow operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
  • Collaborate with other team members to accomplish organization goals; provide ideas to improve efficiency at group.
  • Investigate and evaluate practical applicability of potential changes to various pharmacy unit activities.
  • Prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders, detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.
  • Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  • Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies; advising interventions.
  • Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians’ workflow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges, and inspections.
  • Follow all relevant safety, quality and environmental control procedures and instructions so that personal safety/the safety of others is not jeopardized and a minimum level of product/service quality and environmental impact can be guaranteed.
  • Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care team.
  • Develops medical team staff’s pharmacological knowledge by participating in group meetings.
  • Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration by monitoring nursing unit inspections; maintaining records for controlled substances; removing outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory; supervising the work results of support personnel; maintaining current registration; studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; advising management on needed actions.
  • Protects patients and staff by adhering to infection-control protocols.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintains pharmacological knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Registered pharmacist, experience in providing care at the primary health care level required (please require copies of qualifications)
  • Female candidates preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency in using computer applications such as excel, MS word and other programs required.
  • 4 to 5 years clinical experience preferred.
  • Can work independently with minimal supervision required.
  • Experience in mentoring and facilitating learning of other clinical staff desirable.
  • Team player a must
  • Strong organizational and communication skills required.
  • Native Arabic speaker essential, fluency in spoken and written English preferred but not essential.
  • Familiarity of the MOH health care system essential

Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.

Any other duties that may be assigned from time by supervisors.
