Job Description:

We seek a talented Petrophysicist to join our client’s dynamic team.

The successful candidate will be part of an integrated geoscience team and must work hand in hand with the geoscience, the reservoir and petroleum engineering teams. They will possess a strong background in petrophysical analysis and interpretation, with the ability to provide valuable insights into reservoir characterisation and evaluation. They are expected to work in field development, well planning, operations support and data acquisition strategy for new vertical, deviated and horizontal wells. In addition, the successful candidate is also expected to provide input to field development studies, including conventional and special core analysis, log analysis, formation pressure analysis, saturation modelling for input to reservoir models, rock mechanics and formation damage studies. The position includes supervising contractors and mentoring/coaching less experienced company staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Petrophysical Analysis: Conduct comprehensive petrophysical evaluations using various data sources, including well logs, core samples, and seismic data, to characterise reservoir properties such as porosity, permeability, fluid saturation, and lithology.
  • Reservoir Modeling: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate petrophysical data into reservoir models, contributing to reservoir simulation studies and reservoir management strategies.
  • Well Planning and Execution: Provide petrophysical support for well planning activities, including candidate selection, logging program design, and real-time data interpretation during drilling operations.
  • Data Interpretation and Reporting: Analyse and interpret petrophysical data to identify reservoir challenges and opportunities, generating detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings to internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Technical Innovation: Stay abreast of industry advancements and emerging technologies in petrophysics, proposing innovative solutions to enhance reservoir characterisation workflows and optimise hydrocarbon recovery.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure the accuracy and reliability of petrophysical interpretations by adhering to best practices, quality control procedures, and industry standards.
  • HSE Compliance: Prioritize health, safety, and environmental considerations in all aspects of work activities, promoting a culture of safety and compliance within the organisation.
  • Provide in-house and on-site client support for petrophysical analysis software
  • Prepare and conduct client training courses
  • Document client enhancements and issues to make tangible improvements
  • Work with sales teams to plan and execute technical sales demonstrations
  • Master petrophysical analysis software to enhance our understanding of the subsurface

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Geology, Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in petrophysical analysis and interpretation within the oil and gas industry.
  • Proficiency in petrophysical software packages such as Schlumberger’s Techlog, Halliburton’s Geolog, or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of geological concepts, well-logging techniques, and petrophysical modelling principles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, delivering high-quality results within specified timelines.
  • Willingness to travel to field locations and work in challenging environments as required.
  • Professional certifications or affiliations (e.g., SPWLA, AAPG) are preferred but not mandatory.
