MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities | |
Working mostly in TB (NTP and Abusetta), Community, and detention center
Related to NTP: • Assisting MOH and MSF MDs in checking new and follow-up patients. • Re-directing non-TB patients to other medical specialties such as respiratory/general doctors if the condition has been identified by MD. • Assisting both local/national and MRAS patients in obtaining registration, x-ray, and laboratory procedures (blood test, TST, AFB). • Ensuring the safety and proper disposals of sharps and infectious containers • Assisting Laboratory department for doing blood extraction for different blood test and train at least 2 NTP staff to be able to do and take over the procedure • Initiating the TST (Tuberculin Skin Test) registration and administration procedure and able to train NTP staff for continuity. • Assisting Reception staff in registering MRAS (New case/Follow-up) due to, amongst others, language barriers. • Training and assisting NTP and Abusetta MoH auxilary nurses to take care of patients according to clinical symptoms and general condition. • Assisting patients in obtaining good sputum sample for AFB test • Do MUAC screening and distributing RUTF to follow-up patients, pregnant and lactating women, TB and HIV, according to protocol. • Specific for Abusetta Hospital: • To update patient status and explaining to nurses on duty doctors order specially written in English to verify if it was carried-out properly. • Explain the nurses and in accordance with the hospital protocols, the way of receiving patients from emergency department and how the patient should be handled; with specific attention to MDRTB patients (isolation). • Observing good ethics and conduct in the hospital without bias to all admitted patients. Guide the staff in proper way. • Managing protocol of infection control • Proper filing of documents for new admitted • Keep attracting attention of nurses and doctors towards admitted patients to manage properly the daily status of every patients. • Daily health education in the morning and reminders to all patient the importance of high fluid intake. Checking if medicine are properly given as ordered. • Weighing admitted patients once a week and update the patients file. • Follow-up result of blood test investigation or diagnostic test to inform the doctors on duty • Assist doctors for pneumothorax procedure and ultrasound. • Aseptic technique of wound dressing for new pneumothorax patients and assessing wound if infected or not in able to notify the doctors on duty. • Inform ward nurses if transporting patients with pneumothorax the need to clamp the tube to avoid accidental removal. • Provided INPUT and OUTPUT form to understand use for patients with pneumothorax in able the nurses can easily fill-up and inform the doctors on duty daily. • Provided sliding scale form for diabetic patient to follow the routine what kind of insulin, dose and time to inject the insulin. • Teaching auxiliary nurses to do daily vital signs of patients before the rounds of doctors on duty. • Taking blood samples of patients, insertion IV cannula, ABG, insertion of urine catheter to male patients, insertion of nasogastric tube
Regarding Mobile activities: • Preparing daily medicine boxes for DC and community activities. • Medicine dispensing in DC and community as well as other nursing responsibilities such as vital signs taken, urine test, pregnancy test, weight measurement, malnutrition measurement, hemocue procedure. • Ensuring data gathering and statistic records from daily consultation cards are filled and entered in KOBO |

Job Requirements
Education | • Essential recognized nurse degree/diploma Desirable Bachelor in Science of Nursing |
Experience | • Desirable 2 years of previous experience and previous experience in other NGO’s
• Demonstrable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting |
