Medical Interpreter

Based in Zwara – LIBYA

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an International Humanitarian Organization providing medical aid to populations in distress, victims of natural and man-made disasters, and victims of armed conflict, regardless of race, religion, and political belief. Main purpose:

The verbal interpretation, in person or remotely, during daily medical activities (consultations, interviews, meetings, etc.) and written translations, from the mission language to local language(s) or vice versa, to ensure accurate, respectful, fluent, and confidential communication between medical staff and the local population.

Responsibilities:

Provide face-to-face interpreting, as well as during telephone and radio calls or other telecom devices, when necessary.
Inform medical staff about any local customs, traditions, important cultural nuances that will help to understand better the context during a meeting, medical consultation, or interview with local people or detainees.
Adapt communication to any circumstances, using appropriate language registry as well as diplomatic and courtesy manners.
Translate MSF internal/external documents into the local language as requested.
Look after all equipment provided, i.e. dictionaries or other books that belong to MSF.
Ensure confidentiality and medical secrecy of all translations are maintained.
Participate in any other related activities as requested by the line manager.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

Languages

Mandatory : Arabic advanced AND French advancedAdvanced level is : native speaker or minimum C1 or TOEIC >935 or TOEFL > 95 or EFSET >61 or IELTS >7Highly desirable: English intermediate or advanced

Education

Essential secondary education, university degree desirable, health knowledge advisable.Experience- Professional experience minimum 3 months in translation/interpretation including French language- Desirable : Experience working in a health care facility or medical organization or as a social worker

Competencies: Rigor, confidentiality, commitment, flexibility, teamwork, stress management, willing to work in humanitarian field.

WORK LOCATION: Zuwara mainly and potentially other areas, the candidate have to be based in Zuwara.

WORKING HOURS:

Full-time job / 48 hours per week / Fixed-term contract
