Light Vehicle Driver

The ICRC Delegation in Libya has a vacancy for:

Light Vehicle Driver

The position will be based in the Misrata Office

Main Responsibilities:

• Drives light vehicles to transport people and/or material in strict adherence to internal security rules and national traffic laws.
• Constantly monitors security conditions on the road.
•  Ensures that goods are stored inside the vehicle according to local, international and ICRC safety standards (attachment and distribution of goods, etc.).
• Checks their assigned vehicle(s)’ equipment, general functioning and body condition and ensures that it is kept fueled and clean inside and out.
• Checks that trips have been authorized where necessary.
• Immediately reports accidents, defects and/or missing equipment to management.
• Can act as head of convoy as needed (in charge of the driver(s), application of security rules and time frame for the convoy).
• Has a regular duty shift (morning, evening and night) at ICRC office / residence.

Relationships:

1. Internally, interacts mainly with logistics staff and other ICRC employees.
2. Externally, interacts with people related to their work, e.g. traffic police, weapon bearers at checkpoints, fuel-station personnel, etc. May interact with beneficiaries

General Duties and Code of Conduct:

• Is aware of the delegation objectives and activities.
• Handles general and individual information accurately and with confidentiality;
• Understands the three components of Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement.
• Applies the security rules at all times.
• Respects and observes the staff regulations of the ICRC in Libya.
• Performs duties and tasks not covered in this job description and provide support to other departments when necessary.

Required background, skills and experience:

Certifications / Education required:

• Secondary school diploma.
• Driving license B held for at least five years.
• Knowledge (spoken and written) of English.

Professional Experience required:

• Experience in a similar position an asset.
• Automobile maintenance experience (oil checks, changing tires, etc.).
• Basic knowledge of mechanics.
• Good knowledge of the area of assignment.
• Capacity to apply ICRC rules and procedure.
• Capacity of treating information confidentially.
• Excellent organizational and methodical abilities, sense of initiative.
• Service oriented with a strong sense for setting of priorities and flexibility.
