Job Description

·         Collect data and monitor the local context, particularly in regard to humanitarian situation of the target population in the project location, assistance, health and access to care, in order to be able to provide reliable information to support advocacy efforts. Includes collecting testimonies.

·         Document humanitarian needs of the target population and gaps in access to protection. Assist the HAO in liaising with protection actors to expose shortcomings of the available assistance and advocate to ensure timely and adequate pris-en-charge for population in the project location. Conducting social assessments, identifying the social support needs of patients/survivors, including legal, protection, shelter/housing, financial/vocational, food security, and access to medical and psychosocial support services beyond the project intervention scope.

·         Maintain and update documentation and data collection tools related to humanitarian affairs on a regular basis. Ensure the highest standards in data protection and confidentiality in accordance with the MSF and project guidelines on data protection.

·         Supporting the provision of comprehensive care to patients and their families, by actively coordinating their work with the other members of the MSF multidisciplinary team (eg. medical, MHPSS, HA) and linking with multi-sectoral services such as protection, safety, security, legal, justice, education, and livelihood.

·         Update and file field contacts and correspondence related to protection/humanitarian affairs in order to ensure information sources accuracy and its availability on regular basis. Ensure good working relationships with local authorities, other NGOs, local communities, etc. in order to facilitate the contact of the MSF teams with the population and to improve the coordination of their activities with third parties.

·         In close collaboration with the Humanitarian Affairs Officer, and the Project Coordinator, participate in the organization of activities to raise awareness of respect for humanitarian principles, medical mission and other advocacy messages for local actors.

MSF is an emergency response organisation with a ‘can do’ attitude and flexibility to take on other related task is essential. This job description does not form part of the contract of employment.

Job Requirements

Education •        Diploma in law, humanitarian affairs, political science, social sciences, social work or other similar university degree
Experience •       A minimum of two years of experience in protection, social work, research/analysis and advocacy.

•        Experience within MSF or other NGOs Desirable: Management experience

•        Experience within MSF or other INGOs, NGOs, UN agencies, CSOs

Languages •        Arabic, English
Knowledge Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)

Languages •        French, Tigrinya, Amharic, Somali, Oromo…
Knowledge  Good writing / research / analytical skills
