Senior MHPSS Project Assistant
JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the overall direct supervision of the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Program Officer and Migration Health Coordinator and overall supervision of Chief of Mission, the successful candidates will support the direct implementation of the IOM MHPSS activities under “Supporting Libyan authorities to address COVID-19 related challenges and providing assistance to vulnerable groups in Libya” project among other related tasks in Libya.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in the preparation of a Mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) activity work plan, in coordination with the supervisor and outreach psychosocial teams and develop reporting mechanisms.
- Participate in providing technical oversight on the activities of the psychosocial mobile teams across different locations in Libya.
- Participate in the design of community MHPSS activities to migrants and affected population based on assessed needs.
- Participate in the establishment of a referral plan, including procedures, forms, confidentiality arrangement. Support the development of internal SoPs as required.
- Support the programme manager in identifying capacity building opportunities in Libya for Civil Society Organizations and Government counterparts, support developing training materials and contribute to the delivery of trainings if required (translation or facilitating sessions).
- Attend training sessions and document all process for processing approvals, authorisations maintaining up to date copies of all documents.
- Provide the programme manager with timely and accurate information of delivered activities and in compliance with IOM reporting formats and timeframes.
- Contribute to the development of information materials on mental health and psychosocial support services available.
- Submit weekly and monthly reports documenting all activities and services provided.
- Support MHPSS PM in providing information requested from the Project Development and Support Unit, including inputs to reports and communications materials.
- Liaise with other IOM units in particular Protection in addition to VHR, Health and Technical Cooperation/IBG, Community Stabilisation and MRRM to guarantee a holistic approach to responses, management of identified cases and referral when necessary.
- Attend meetings – both programmatic and Technical on regular basis. Participate in MHPSS coordination meetings, Child Protection Working Group meetings and subgroups at the Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Education (MoE), and others.
- Participate in the establishment of a monitoring and evaluation system, including field visits.
- Undertake all administrative and office related to ensuring the successful implementation of tasks and the project activities.
- When required, develop purchase Request Forms (PRFs), get necessary approval and liaise with other unit/programs/departments within IOM to ensure that all travel and venue booking is completed in time.
- Develop all necessary paper-work and get necessary approval liaising with other unit/programs/departments within IOM to ensure that all arrangements for trainings to conducted in Tunis and Libya are being completed on time.
- Travel to any location as requested by the direct supervisor when/where necessary.
- Undertake any other duty as may be assigned by the MHPSS officer.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work, social sciences, or any other relevant fields such as Human Sciences, Public Health, etc and minimum four years’ experience in a relevant field.
- High school degree with six years of relevant professional experience.
- Previous experiences in providing services to displaced populations, migrants, refugees or conflict affected populations.
- Previous experience in the fields of social work, psychology, public/community health, sociology program in emergency settings.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of UN and international agencies structures.
- Experience in capacity building activities and curriculum development is an advantage.
- Knowledge of mental health and psychosocial issues in execution of responsibilities at appropriate level;
- Maintains confidentiality and discretion in appropriate areas of work
- Skilled at developing culturally relevant psychotherapeutic interventions
- Demonstrated expertise and thorough knowledge on the practical application of the
- IASC Guidelines on MHPSS in Emergency Settings;
- Knowledgeable on the psychosocial impact of forced displacement.
Fluency in English and Arabic is required, Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage
