Job Summary

 The MHPSS Counsellor plays a crucial role in our team, providing individual psychological sessions and essential support to individuals grappling with mental health issues in crisis and post-crisis contexts. This role requires applying a range of counselling modalities and approaches to effectively address the diverse needs of our clients.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 Individual Psychological Sessions:

    • Conduct one-on-one psychological counselling sessions using a variety of counselling modalities tailored to each client’s needs.
  1. Assessment and Treatment Planning:
    • Conduct comprehensive assessments to understand clients’ mental health concerns and develop personalized treatment plans incorporating different counselling approaches.
  2. Counselling Modalities:
    • Utilize a diverse range of counselling modalities such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Informed Care, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Mindfulness, among others.
  3. Psychoeducation and Support:
    • Provide psychoeducation to clients and their families, imparting knowledge about mental health conditions and effective coping mechanisms.
  4. Crisis Intervention:
    • Be prepared to offer immediate support and intervention for clients experiencing acute emotional or psychological crises, utilizing crisis intervention techniques.
  5. Confidentiality and Ethics:
    • Adhere to strict confidentiality and ethical guidelines while handling sensitive client information and maintaining professional boundaries.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of counselling sessions, assessments, and progress notes.
    • Prepare regular reports on caseloads, progress, and outcomes to assist in program evaluation.
  7. Collaboration and Referral:
    • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care for clients, including referrals to specialized services when needed.
  8. Self-Care and Professional Development:
    • Engage in regular supervision, peer support, and self-care practices to maintain personal well-being and professional growth.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in counselling, psychology, clinical social work, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications or licenses in counselling or psychotherapy.
  • Proven experience in providing individual psychological counselling using diverse counselling modalities, especially in crisis or trauma contexts.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based therapeutic modalities and interventions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to empathize and connect with clients.
  • Knowledge of mental health and psychosocial issues, especially in humanitarian or disaster-affected contexts.
